“One of the main reasons practitioners struggle to create culturally meaningful classrooms and Tier 2 groups is that we have not done a great job at showing them how to apply culturally sustaining theories to practices such as MTSS, SEL, and trauma in schools. We can’t share theories alone and expect practitioners to know how to make them work in the classroom. We must do better at showing them how to apply culturally sustaining theories at the tier 1 level through special education services.”
