Dwayne Williams has penned a winner. His debut “An RtI Guide to Improving Performance of African-American Students: What Every Teacher Should Know About Culture and Academic Engagement” provides practical steps needed to assert the importance of culturally sensitive education within and beyond the standardized testing preparation framework already in place. While it may seem a huge undertaking, Williams effortlessly stirs up the education pot and boils it down to its key pedagogical ingredients. As a book seller for over 20 years with AfriWare Books, Gifts & Cultural Events, it was refreshing to see that a book of this calibre was priced within the range of the market he wishes to reach. Also, because of his extensive research and expertise, he is well qualified to speak to the educators and administrators he deserves to reach. The response to Williams’ book has been amazing. The book signing he had at AfriWare drew in a very dedicated set of parents, educators and life-long learners. His Powerpoint presentation captivated us with a mix of his personal stories, videos and audience interaction. Williams hit the ground running and sprinkled a healthy dose of facts/figures which had the audience asking for more. We look forward to his future works.
